Have we visited YOUR school? Let other teachers know what you thought...

  1. Hobgoblin visited us yesterday and performed 'A Viking's Tale' to Upper Key Stage Two. The feedback we have had from the children has been incredible. They have all commented on how much they learned and how much they enjoyed the play and the follow up workshop. As a team of teachers we were blown away not only by the performance but by the rapport all three actors had with the children. Thank you so much, we will definitiely be booking again!

  2. We had the history of Maths play performed at Ibstock Junior School on 17th March. The feedback from the teachers who attended was "the play was well received by all of the 214 pupils and they remained engaged throughout. The maths based questions were at the appropriate level for all ages in the school (years 3 to 6). I would recommend this production to collegues". I personally thought that the play was excellent, great fun, a good range of subjects covered and the children really seemed to enjoy it. My daughter (year 3) also surprised me this week by being able to tell her brother how many lifeboats the Titantic was missing for the number of passengers that it had got so something obviously went in!! Well done to all involved. We would definitely book you again :-)

  4. Thank you for performing Robin Hood to our school. Teachers and children enjoyed every minute of it and we were all exhausted at the end - and we were just watching it! We don't know how you keep the pace and remember all the lines! The humour was spot on and you kept the children's interest throughout. We hope to see you again and would certainly recommend you to other schools.

  5. Your performance of ‘Perseus and Medusa’ was brilliant! We were especially impressed with the way that you halted the performance at regular points to go over points such as the names of characters, the relationships between them, and the wider context of Ancient Greeks. The actors had a wide knowledge base beyond the script to support the discussions they had with the children. Our Year 5s were really engaged, and we will definitely be looking forward to your next visit!

  7. Thank you for another brilliant performance! Yesterday, you performed the KS2 History of Maths Show for all our Year 2s and they absolutely loved it ... and so did the teachers! We had a wide range of abilities watching and the actors were very good at adapting their questions when interacting with the children. Excellent links with history too!

  8. The performance was fast paced and held the children's interest well. The characterisation was excellent with great use of accent, costume and props.
The workshops were enjoyed by all, a new experience of theatre for many of our children

  9. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon of theatre! The children and staff all loved the performance of 'The Greatest Fairytale Ever Told'. An excellent idea and it's lovely to see traditional fairytales being kept alive.

    (Posted on 2012-10-24 11:36:00 by )
  10. Thank you for a brilliant morning! The children thoroughly enjoyed Hansel and Gretel and were completely enthralled by the performance. The acting was excellent and the drama sessions afterwards were very enjoyable. The actors were highly professional and had a delightful rapport with the children. We look forward to seeing some more of your work.

  11. Our Year 3s loved the show 'Thompson's War' which really brought alive everything they had learned about World War II. Every child was completely engaged with the show, and the parts where they went into groups with 'their' actor to reinforce the leaning worked so well. The show covered every area that we had planned for and a little bit more - we particularly liked the way Hobgoblin addressed predjudice against the German people (as opposed to the Nazis) and this generated very valuable discussion. The children also thoroughly enjoyed the drama workshop where they had to 'sculpt' each other. Altogether a brilliant performance, excellent workshop and good management of a large year group - thank you again!

  12. This performance not only reinforced the facts about Ancient Egyptians, but also encouraged the children to take a role in developing their learning through drama. The characters were fun and very memorable, especially Francoise Baguette! We really enjoy the Hobgoblin Theatre team coming to our school - they are always so professional and flexible. Thank you.

  13. Hobgoblin visited us and put on 'Perseus and Medusa' and a drama workshop as part of our topic on Ancient Greece. It was thoroughly enjoyable and very humorous for both children and staff! The production was very informative and the interactive nature of the play meant that the children were engaged at all times! This is the second year that Hobgoblin Theatre Company have visited our school and it has been very well received on both occasions and we hope to have them back again in the future. Thanks for venturing out into the snow yet again!! Liz and Lisa, Mellor Primary, Leicester

  14. K Billington Waterfield Primary School
Thankyou for the fantastic performance of 'The Greatest Fairytale Ever Told'. Both the children and the staff had a fabulous time, full of fun and laughter. The children were talking about their favourite characters all afternoon. A great first time theatre experience for some of our children.

  15. "The Thompsons' War" engaged children's interest very quickly and maintained their interest throughout.

Wartime London represented through a great story with believable characters, brilliant voices and a school-girl narrator.

Pitched at an appropriate level and relevant to the curriculum; rationing, evacuation, blackouts, air--raids and social issues all covered well.

Good idea to break into groups and do Q&A - the interactive section. Thoroughly enjoyable, thank you.

    (Posted on 2011-11-17 19:13:00 by )
  16. The children and adults thoroughly enjoyed the performance of "Goldilocks & the 3 Bears". It promoted social values, mathematics and really enthused the children to participate in drama, connecting with the story. The humour was suitable for children and adults alike. It was also fantastic to show children a different version of the story.

The workshop was exciting and allowed the children to reflect on what they saw, also teaching them how to take on a character and use their imagination.

    (Posted on 2011-11-17 19:08:00 by )
  17. "The Wall". Excellent production - very informative and entertaining for the children and also managed to be enjoyable for the adults. Managed to cover a lot of ground in a short time. One of the best we have had.

    (Posted on 2011-11-17 19:03:00 by )
  18. As always, "A Viking Tale" was excellent. The boys were completely enthralled by the story and were keen to participate in the group sessions. The factual information contained in the story fully complemented the work done in class. The children all said how much they'd enjoyed the session. Thank you so much! The workshop was a new experience for the boys. Their enjoyment of the activities was evident and their creativity during the pair work and group work noticeably improved during the workshop.

    (Posted on 2011-11-17 18:59:00 by )
  19. Was completely blown away by how engaging, educational and enthralling the play ("The Workhouse Boy") was. The children (and teachers alike) were utterly spellbound! Can't wait to see you again!

    (Posted on 2011-11-11 19:28:00 by )
  20. "The Wall" (Romans) - Wow, a feast for our eyes, ears and brains. Great idea to have the interim discussions to re-focus learning for everyone. Please come back again and again and again :-)

    (Posted on 2011-11-11 19:25:00 by )
  21. "Hansel & Gretel" - another excellent Hobgoblin production, great for children and adults alike! Thank you. The Workshop was also excellent - the chlidren very obviously totally enjoyed this and were fully engaged. Thanks again.

  22. The children thought the play ("The Thompsons' War") was very good and interesting. Liked the breaks - helped them to learn more. Well organised, clear instructions for children. Super.

    (Posted on 2011-11-08 06:58:00 by )
  23. "The Wall" (KS2 Romans) was entertaining and educational for the kids. Professional staff who were excellent actors and were brilliant with the students.

  24. Thank you for your excellent performance of 'Perseus and Medusa' and the drama workshop that you led. The play and drama sessions were fantastic for our Ancient Greece project and our Literacy story work on myths and legends this term. We would strongly recommend the show and workshop to others.

    (Posted on 2011-10-25 19:23:00 by )
  25. The performance of "The Frog Prince" was very good - the actors aimed the production to suit the young audience. The children really enjoyed themselves and responded well to the performers, who spoke to them in an animated way which held their attention. The actors were very professional and clearly knew how to interact with their audience.

    (Posted on 2011-09-28 15:34:00 by )
  26. "The Thompsons' War" was excellent! It covered all the main aspects of our WWII topic in an interesting, informative and engaging way. The interactive format really got the children thinking and helped them get the most out of the curriculum-rich and relevant content.

    (Posted on 2011-09-28 15:30:00 by )
  27. "Perseus & Medusa" - The Hobgoblin trio (Hannah, Dan and James) were enthusiastic and inspiring. They captivated the children and maintained their full attentionfrom the minute they entered the hall. The combination of the play, discussion and drama inspired learning and encouraged participation from all children.

    (Posted on 2011-09-28 15:28:00 by )
  28. Absolutely brilliant! All 3 actors were very clear and spoke perfectly. They changed character distinctly. They flowed from scene to scene effortlessly. The story ("The Eyam Plague") covered excellent historical, geographical, scientific and dramatic content and led into a very detailed discussion with my science class. Simple. Effective. Engaging. Memorable!

    (Posted on 2011-09-28 15:25:00 by )
  29. The children really enjoyed "The Thompsons' War". They were engaged throughout and the performance really helped to bring WWII alive for them. I thought that the way the play was stopped at various points to give the children a chance to share ideas etc was particularly good.

  30. The Hobgoblin Theatre Company came to us on Thursday as treat for the end of term - and it was a treat! The children thoroughly enjoyed it; our children who struggle to sit still were enraptured, as were the staff! The cast were wonderful and the scenery was simple but effective. It was a pleasure to welcome them into school. I would recommended the group to anyone and hope to book again in the future. Thank you for a fantastic end of term!

  31. I wanted to write on your website in the hope that teachers and other professionals working with children will read this. I have booked two Christmas pantos with Hobgoblin and both have been outstanding successes. Last year we doubled the audience and based on that success I have booked two bespoke workshops for the summer holidays. The whole Hobgoblin Team are professional, creative and hard working. I have only the highest praise for them and what they can provide. In times of austerity and Council budget cuts, the prices charged give value for money which is matched by the service provided. Thank you Hannah, Dan and James.

  32. The play (Perseus & Medusa) was well performed and engaged the children. Characters were strong and story easy to follow.
The workshop was well organised and allowed participation for all levels of ability. Clear direction and high expectations. Children gained a lot out of the experience.

  33. Dear Hobgoblin Theatre Co.
We are writing to say thank you to Hannah, James and Dan for coming to Burrowmoor School and performing a wonderful play for us.
We enjoyed the performance abbout Ancient Greece very much, we learned a lot and it was funny.
We hope that you will come back to Burrowmoor one day so that we may learn about another historical adventure and look forward to meeting new characters.
    Yours sincerely,
    Year 5

  34. The set was simple and yet very clever. The props were also simple but effective. The costumes were good - the children liked the way that "just putting on that red sash made him Perseus".

The content was good - Curriculum relevance was perfect. Professionalism and punctuality were also faultless and therefore well worth the cost. A great time was had by all our children - years 2 to 6.

    (Posted on 2011-01-30 14:54:00 by )
  35. "Perseus & Medusa" - The girls thoroughly enjoyed the many characters revealed to them and were able to move from the Greek chorus to the stories with ease. The 'time-out' sessions, which were used to determine their understanding and knowledge, helped many to access the plot and difficult character names! Strong performances by all 3 performers, in addition to the excellent rapport with the pupils.

    (Posted on 2011-01-27 17:56:00 by )
  36. The children thoroughly enjoyed this morning's performance of "Alice in Wonderland" - thank you.

The set and costumes were very effective and I was really impressed with the way that the actors involved the children. The acting was great with lots of humorous moments.

    (Posted on 2011-01-27 17:52:00 by )
  37. What a fantastic experience! The boys were enthralled and the teachers astounded! We were mightily impressed with the amount of energy and skill level in the performance. A wonderful story, told in an extremely imaginative and clever way. Lovely people too!

    (Posted on 2011-01-11 09:03:00 by )
  38. A fantastic play. It brought WWII to the children’s level as they saw it through children’s eyes. I also think stopping and brainstorming is a great idea. It kept the children completely focussed as very often just a play would make them lose concentration and go off task. The plot was easy to follow and provided many poignant moments.

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:50:00 by )
  39. Hilarious, pupils and staff loved it, set and props were simple but effective. Pupils who understood most were those who knew the Fairy Tales, but all followed the storyline and enjoyed the characters. Relevant to Traditional Tales section of the National Curriculum.

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:49:00 by )
  40. Wow! What great things the children and staff were saying, it was 100% positive from everyone! Thank you for a brilliant performance. I’m so glad we were able to have you at Dovelands!

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:48:00 by )
  41. The whole school really enjoyed ‘The Rise & Fall of the Ugly Sisters’ yesterday. It’s rare to have a performance that interests and amuses both Reception up to Year 6 – credit to the superb acting an humour. All the Staff thought it was great too – an added bonus. Thank you to you all – will definitely book you again!

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:48:00 by )
  42. Both plays were pitched and paced so that children were enthralled without losing focus. You kept 200 children in the palm of your hands for a considerable amount of time. The script was very clever and actors were energetic and enthusiastic. They were able to adapt to responses from the excited audience and were able to ‘call order’ without leaving character. Lots of hard work producing great outcomes! Many thanks!

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:41:00 by )
  43. Children really enjoyed it and it helped them consolidate existing knowledge. Overall I’d really recommend Hobgoblin Theatre Company. Easy to book. No hassle when setting up etc. thank you so much for a great afternoon!

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:38:00 by )
  44. The play was excellent. The children were enthralled by the story. The acting was of a high quality and the children were fully engaged in the discussions. A wide variety of facts about Viking life was introduced. The actors were very enthusiastic and the session was pitched at the right level in terms of level and time.

    (Posted on 2010-11-28 18:37:00 by )
  45. The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance of “A Viking Tale”. Having short sessions which reflected on the key characters and events in the story also kept the children focused. Many of the children commented on being slaves and enjoyed the rowing givng them a clear understanding of life in Viking times.

The workshop enabled the children to think of how characters may feel and the expressions used to engage an audience.

All our children had a fantastic Viking experience which I am sure they will remember for some time.

    Thank you Hobgoblin Theatre Group.
